While birding the Samish Flats today Martin Muller and I ran across a strange
gull, right next to Thomas Rd at its intersection with Chuckanut. This was a
pink-footed gull the same size as the GW gulls it was associating with. I
think this was a different bird than the one discussed on Tweeters last month.
Head- White with faint gray streaking on the back of the neck. Gray eye
patch. Eye pale yellow.
Mandible- Yellow with a red mark that extended up onto the upper mandible.
Mantle- pure white with no markings
Tail-White with a few faint pale gray bars
Primaries-white with dark gray tips with-in the gray color range of the
associated GW Gulls
Good luck figuring this one out! Ed Deal, Seattle
