update.

Rare bird alert for a BLACK and WHITE WARBLER.

Sightings for Sunday, December 19

The Vancouver Christmas Bird Count took place today with a provisional
total of 132 species despite rather wet weather conditions. Highlights of
the count were a BLACK and WHITE WARBLER seen just East of Savage Rd. on
Richmond's River Road. A GREEN HERON was counted at Deer Lake and several
SNOW BUNTINGS at Iona.

A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was reported on the monthly Terra Nova bird survey in
Richmond.

Saturday, December 18

..Two COMMON REDPOLLS were observed at the south end of the Iona/Sea Island
Causeway.

Friday, December 17

The HOODED WARBLER near the Sechlet Airfield was heard but not seen

Thursday, December 16

The adult female HOODED WARBLER was seen near the Gibsons-Sechelt Airfield.


The PALM WARBLER was again reported from the Sea Island dike near the end
of the old Shannon Road west of MacDonald Beach. Also seen at this
location were 2 AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS and closer to the Iona Sea Island
Causeway were a GRYFALCON and 2 COMMON REDPOLLS. Two more COMMON REDPOLLS
were seen at a different location at Iona.

Eight SHORT-EARED OWLS, and a Harland's race RED-TAILED HAWK were observed
on a walk along the Boundary Bay dike between 72nd and 64th. Along 36th
Ave. a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen.

On a shorline survey in the Blackie Spit /Crescent Beach area a LONG-BILLED
CURLEW and a CEDAR WAXWING were notable.

Wednesday, December 15

The HOODED WARBLER was seen for the 4th consecutive day.

Tuesday, December 14

The HOODED WARBLER was reported for the 3rd consecutive day.

Monday, December 13

The HOODED WARBLER was observed in the morning near the Gibsons-Sechelt
Airfield. to Field Rd.

A CATTLE EGRET was seen from Tamboline Rd. on Westham Isl. near a red barn.

Reifel Refuge reported 2 PEREGRINES and 3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS.
