Yesterday my wife left the sliding glass door to the back patio open for a
few minutes while she went into the living room. A few moments later, she
heard a scrabbling sound in the kitchen. A Steller's Jay had seized the
moment to come inside and raid the catfood dish on the kitchen floor a
couple of feet from the open door!

We live about two miles from Bellevue Square in a wonderfully woodsy condo
complex, where I've seen over 80 species in the last twelve years, and where
ducks have occasionally invaded the kitchen for the same purpose; but this
was the first Steller's Jay to try to domesticate itself!
