Sunday, December 19, 1999, 11:29 a.m. Hi, this is Greg
Toffic. Yesterday, on Saturday, while doing the Everett
Christmas count, at Lake Loma, which is in Snohomish
County a little east of Lake Goodwin, I saw two
SANDHILL CRANES flying directly over and to the south.
Good birding.

Sunday, December 19, 1999, 9:24 a.m. Hi, this is Stephen
Mlodinow. Yesterday, Jack Stephens, Barry Levine and I
went around the Skagit Game Range and out on the Samish
Flats. Highlights were a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW
in the town of Bayview and a PRAIRIE FALCON at the
Bayview-to-Edison-Samish Island Road T-intersection.
That's it, good luck and good birding.

Sunday, December 19, 1999, 7:17 a.m. This is Bob Morse
from Olympia, 360-943-8600, reporting with the highlights
of Saturday's Grays Harbor Christmas Bird Count. Three
OLD SQUAW were seen in Half Moon Bay in Westport,
and nearby five ROCK SANDPIPERS and a good number
of BLACK TURNSTONES and SURFBIRDS were at the
end of the jetty as it enters Half Moon Bay. Two first-year
GLAUCOUS GULLS were in Westport at the RV Park
beyond the Islander Motel near the marina, while close by
two GREAT EGRETS were dining at the fish rearing cages
at the marina. A second-year GLAUCOUS GULL was
observed at Bill's Spit in Ocean Shores. An ANNA'S
HUMMINGBIRD was continuing at a feeder at North Bay
Drive. And a MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE was seen at the
intersection of Wynoochee and Rock Clam Streets in Ocean
Shores.

Saturday, December 18, 1999, 9:19 p.m. Oh, hello, this is
Dave Pink, 425-649-0601. In Skagit today, saw the
GYRFALCON, and it was on Farm-to-Market road,
between Church and Sunset, and this is about 2 o'clock. It
did fly briefly but stayed well within the area. Thanks very
much, good luck and good birding.

Wednesday, December 15, 11:17 a.m. Hi, this is Michael
Dossett, 425-402-3790. Yesterday, December 14th, I
birded Shoreview Park in Shoreline and I walked up Boeing
Creek. I had a DIPPER and a male TOWNSEND'S
WARBLER along Boeing Creek. Thank you and good
birding.

Sunday, December 12, 8:29 p.m. Hello, this is Kraig
Kemper, 206-789-9255, reporting for Saturday, December
11th and Sunday December 12th. Birding Clark County at
Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge at the Carty Unit on
Saturday, December 11th , Cathy Kemper and I observed
one GREAT EGRET at the south end of the North-South
small lake reached by heading due west from the parking lot.
Later that afternoon in Lewis County, we observed one
adult WHITE-TAILED KITE on Wildwood Road, one mile
south of the intersection of Wildwood Road with P.L.
McDonald Road. Birding Grays Harbor County on Sunday,
December 12th, at Ocean Shores, we found one EARED
GREBE within the marina waters itself and three GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE on the Golf Course. Returning
to Seattle, we stopped at the Hoquiam Sewage Lagoon,
where we again saw one EARED GREBE. Thank you and
good birding.

FLICKER today from the Montlake Fill. Bird was seen in
the low trees and on the ground just to the east of the Main

Good luck.

over Smith's Farm. Thanks.

Tuesday, December 7, 1:41 p.m. Hi, this is Greg Toffic in
Seattle, 684-4836. I just returned from a noontime stroll
around Green Lake, and at the Evans Pool diving platform,
there's a nice adult THAYER'S GULL.

Sunday, December 5, 7:32 p.m. Hello, this is Phil Marks at
509-962-2191. Several of us checked the Hoquiam
Sewage Pond today - no LONGSPUR. I was there from
12:30 to 2:30, and John Friar and Rick Sanders were there
an hour or two before me. There's a flock of
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS at the site, two
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE at the southwest corner of the
ponds, one BONAPARTE'S GULL, lots of DUNLIN flew
by. But no LONGSPUR. Thanks.

Saturday, December 4th, 5:39 p.m. Hi, this is Alan Knue, at
206-706-2550. Today, I birded with Mike Donahue from
Edmonds to Port Angeles and back. And the highlight of
today was a FRANKLIN'S GULL, a winter adult, at the
Olympic Game Farm north of Sequim. It was down in the
elk pen roosting with a bunch of gulls at around 11 a.m. this
morning. The other highlight was large pod of Orca whales
from the Kingston-Edmonds ferry at around 3:50 in the
afternoon. That's all and good birding.

Saturday, December 4, 4:37 p.m. This is Dennis Duffy.
Today I went to Smith Island in Everett, chasing the
SWAMP SPARROW that was found there yesterday. I had
mixed results. I did not find the SWAMP SPARROW, but
in the same general area, I saw a group of four
WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS.

Friday, December 3rd, 2:58 p.m. Greetings. This is Chuck
Peterson. This morning, I birded Spencer Island and the
surrounding area. The only species of note was a SWAMP
SPARROW. It was along the asphalt walkway or pathway
on the west end of the bridge that goes into Spencer Island
and about two-thirds of the way to north on the end of the
trail. Thank you very much.
