POSITIONS AVAILBLE: LANDBIRD MONITORING IN THE KLAMATH
DEMOGRAPHIC NETWORK

Redwood Sciences Laboratory (RSL) anticipates several position openings for bander interns and banding assistants volunteers in 2000. RSL is the hub of the Klamath Demographic Network of southwestern Oregon and northwestern California. This project has evolved into the most concentrated network of Constant-Effort-Stations (CES) in North America.

Banding crews will be needed to operate several CES. Related projects include Rapid Ornithological Inventories (intensive two-day mist-netting and censusing effort), small owl surveys and mist-netting, vegetation surveys, invertebrate sampling, and opportunities to assist with Marbled Murrelet Surveys.

RSL's banding protocols closely follow guidelines set by the North American Banding Council (NABC), and this is a great opportunity to master skills at this level. NABC Certified Bander Trainers will conduct workshops and field training. Both experienced and novice persons will be selected, however a strong field ornithology background will be favored. Applicants must be in excellent physical condition and possess good communication skills. The ability to work both independently and with others is essential. Positions typically start late-April to mid-May and late-August, and can continue through October.
