a quick look through my encyclopedia of bird names reveals several
Y and Z names;

yelkouan (turkish name, yelkovan, for a shearwater)
yatapa (indian name for the strange-tailed tyrant, Yetapa risora,
referring to the way it opens and closes the tail feathers in
flight like shears)
yncas (a former spelling for "incas")
ypecaha (paraguayan indian name, ypacaHA, for the giant wood rail,
Aramides)
yuhina (nepalese name, yuhin, for the stripe-throated yuhina,
Yuhina gularis)

Z
zabele (brazilian indian name, zabelE, for the tawny-browed tinamou,
Crypturellus)
zanda (an aboriginal word of unknown meaning)
zebrilus (diminutive frenc, zebre, for zebra; refers to the finely
striped plumage of the zig-zag heron, Zebrilus undulatus)
zena (greek,zene, a type of finch, probably the goldfinch, Carduelis)
zenaida (after zenaide laetitia julie princesse bonaparte (1804-1854)
wife of french ornithologist prince charles bonaparte)
zonibyx (greek: zone, a girdle or band; mod. latin ibyx, a lapwing
or dotterel)
