I went out birding with a friend this morning. It was really
burrrrrrrrrrr-ding. Man was it ever
c-o-l-d.

We headed out to Soos Creek and I spied my first WINTER WREN. This
itty-bitty bird was dancing around on a small branch next to the creek. It
was bobbing up and down and chirping up a teeny-weenie storm. My friend and
I couldn't believe it let us get so close, and that it was so vocal and
active. Plus it had a perky straight up little tail. We were charmed.

We also spied:

DOWNY WOODPECKER
HAIRY WOODPECKER
GOLD AND RUBY CROWN KINGLETS (seen and heard)
BLACK CAP CHICKADEES
SONG SPARROW (heard)

I also spotted a very olive green teeny bird flitting around on the ground
in the same vicinity of the kinglets.

Soos Creek is where I'll be assisting with the CBC on January 2nd.

We then headed over to the Kent Ponds.

NORTHERN SHOVELERS
GREEN WING TEALS
PINTAILS
CORMORANTS
*AMERICAN KESTRAL*
RED TAIL HAWK (two of them!!!!)
GREAT BLUE HERON
GREAT HORNED OWL of the plastica subspecies standing sentry duty at one of
the viewing towers.
BUSHTITS

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!
