This is the Vancouver, B.C. Bird Alert for Friday, December 24, 9:40 pm
update.

The operators of the Vancouver Bird Alert would like to wish all birders a
very Merry Christmas and a hope that Santa delivers all those special
birding gifts this evening.

Rare bird alert continues for the BLACK and WHITE WARBLER.

Featured birds are BLACK & WHITE WARBLER, CATTLE EGRET & PRAIRIE FALCON.

Sightings for Friday, December 24

The BLACK & WHITE WARBLER was seen near the picnic area west of #7 Rd. &
River Rd. in Richmond. Most observers have remarked that the bird feeds
low in the trees or shrubs. The bird travels with a large flock of
Chickadees and Kinglets.

The CATTLE EGRET was observed near a barn on the NW corner of Tamboline &
Westham Isl. Rds. The PRAIRIE FALCON was sighted in a tree near the end of
34th Ave. in Delta. Two immature NORTHERN GOSHAWKS were reported from the
Reifel Refuge.

Thursday, December 23

The BLACK & WHITE WARBLER was reported from several locations along River
Rd., both east and west of Savage Rd.

Twenty-three BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were seen at the mouth of North
Vancouver's Cypress Creek. Another 7 were observed near Stanley Park's
Second Beach.

Wednesday, December 22

The BLACK and WHITE WARBLER was seen near the picnic area west of #7 Rd.
and River Rd.

A CRESTED MYNA was observed in Vancouver near the intersection of 7th and
Columbia.

The Reifel Refuge reported in with the sightings of the immature NORTHERN
GOSHAWK, a SWAMP SPARROW and a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL.

Tuesday, December 21

The BLACK and WHITE WARBLER was seen on the northside of River Rd near the
intersection of Savage Rd. and River Rd. in Richmond.

On the CBC in Whistler a record number of 56 species was tallied. Notable
finds were a WESTERN MEADOWLARK, a BOHEMIAN WAXWING, a NORTHERN SHRIKE,
and several COMMON REDPOLLS.

Monday, December 20

A male ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD has been frequenting a feeder in the 21600 block
of 148th St. in Surrey.

Another 2 ANNA'S, a male and female are coming to a feeder in the front
yard of a home on the 6900 block of Hycroft Rd. in West Vancouver. Also
seen near this location was a GOLDEN EAGLE.

A CATTLE EGRET was again reported near the intersection of Tamboline and
Westham Isl. Rd. Reported from the Reifel Refuge were an immature NORTHERN
GOSHAWK, A NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL and a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON.

Sunday, December 19

The Vancouver Christmas Bird Count took place with a provisional total of
132 species. Highlights of the count were the BLACK and WHITE WARBLER seen
just East of Savage and River Roads, a GREEN HERON counted at Deer Lake and
several SNOW BUNTINGS at Iona.

A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was reported on the monthly Terra Nova bird survey in
Richmond.
