Tweets,
I decided to occupy the drive time coming back from Portland today by
watching for and counting raptors that I could see from I-5. This count is
from the state line to the N130th exit in Seattle in late morning-early
afternoon (11:30-2:00).

22 Red-tailed Hawk, including a dark-morph near Kelso.
1 Rough-legged Hawk-in median strip just north of Vancouver. A light M. Imm.
1 N.Harrier-cruising over a field passing through Tacoma.
1 A. Kestrel-on a wire near Woodland
1 Merlin-Crossing I-5 near Centralia
1 Peregrine-Crossing I-5 in Tacoma.

Not a bad day at all.

To identify a species should not be enough to quench one's thirst,
a proper thirst must seek to understand every facet of the bird's
existence.
