Tweets,
Took my regular constitutional along the lake this afternoon. Hazy and
cool, the lake flat as glass. Mostly it was the usual suspects, but
there'a a single male NORTHERN PINTAIL hanging out with the mallards at
the Lakewood MArina. The first one I've seen along that stretch since I
started looking closely at the beginning of the year. Other highlights,
3 RUDDY DUCKS in Andrew's bay, a GREAT BLUE HERON flyover- they always
leave me with my mouth hanging open- and a cluster of WESTERN GREBES
waaay out from the LAkewood Marina.
We're off to VAshon Island for the New Year. Close to the water so I'll
be happy.

Here's an eagle question- I've heard that it takes a couple years for the
young to develop adult plumage. Are there any distinguishing
characteristcs that pinpoint age? I see one big all dark one pretty
regularly on my walks in the neighborhood. There's another I've seen
three times now out my window overlooking the Pigott Corridor by the
Convention Center. THis one has a real blotchy back and and head.
I'd like to be able to tell how old they are.

Thanks,
Catherine Alexander
