I just noticed that the new Delorme Washington Gazeteer now features GPS
grids -- actually just tick marks on the edges of the page every minute and
legends every 10 minutes.

They have retained our beloved township grids which are invaluable in
noting and locating birding spots --- and in figuring out where you are,
and how to get back home, after traversing forest service roads for three
hours (when there are T/R stakes). (I had been afraid that Delorme would
substitute the GPS grids for the township grids during this publishing
transition.)

The GPS grids aren't super useful because of the map scale, and because the
grids aren't carried across the page, although the township lines can be
helpful as guides. However, the guy who does the transparent USGS grid
overlays for Magellan is working on equivalent overlays for the Gazeteers.
If he publishes them, I'll post the info here.

All this because my daughter gave me a Magellan 315 for Christmas.
Amazing... must be the work of the devil (as my grandmother said when she
saw television the first time)... I'll feel much more comfortable
4-wheeling the back roads in eastern Washington, eastern Oregon, and Idaho
while birding and butterflying this Spring and Summer.
