The 3rd Official Lyle Christmas Bird Count worked out nicely. Here are the
preliminary results, with final bird numbers from one sector yet to be
tabulated.

Total species 102 (first time over 100)
Total birds 4,500 (approximate)

Species highlights

Acorn Woodpeckers 2
Swans, sp. 3
Anna's Hummingbird 1
White-winged Scoter 3 (Second County record)
Lewis Woodpeckers 150+ (with one sector yet to report. 78 observed in
1997-98 Lyle CBC was the highest seen anywhere, and 79
was highest observed anywhere in 1998-99 in a California
CBC)
Virginia Rails 7
Mew Gull 1
Bush Tits

Number of participants 20
Weather Upper 40's and low 50's, no measurable precipitation. Birds seemed
to be coming out, after an extended period of adverse weather.

Consider joining us for the Klickitat County Spring North American Migration
Count in May..usually the second Saturday.
