Hello Tweeters,
I found onother GLAUCOUS GULL this afternoon checking up on the Mandarine
Duck. This is the third Glaucous Gull in Tacoma. The other two we found last
week on the Gog-Le- Hi-Tee on Lincoln Av. where we had the Slaty-backed
Gull. I usual never feed Gulls, but i had all this old bred from making
Turkey Stuffings. It was kind of fun to get the Gulls so close around you.
The only Gull what never got anything was the many Mew Gulls what we always
have on Titlow. There was standing more less on the outside and where not
fast enough to get anything at all. There seem so intimidated by all this
other Gulls. This first winter GLAUCOUS stayed close by,and when he got a
pice of bred flew away in to the water, so no other gulls can snatch it
away.I found this method extreme clever .The Mandarine Duck fits right in
with all other Ducks there. The last time i checked, the Mallard Ducks kind
of nipped on him, so he always stayed alone. Now he (is a bright male)got
adjusted and he swims among Buffelhead, Hooded Merganser, American Wigeon
and coots.
Gulls i saw on Titlow Beach:
Boneparte's Gull 1
Ring-billed Gulls 3
Mew-Gulls 18
California Gull 1
GLAUCOUS GULL 1
Western Gull 1
Glaucous-winged Western 3
Glaucous-winged Gull 15
To all tweeters have a save New Year and good birding in 2ooo
