Gaylord,
This is a song sparrow who appears to have had an injury to the scalp which has subsequently healed. My experience with captive birds is that when a bird is scalped like this, and the injury is superficial, it heals quickly, but the feathers usually do not grow back.

On a recently field trip I took video of what
looks like a song sparrow with a partially bald
head. I would appreciate any comments from this
group about 1) is the identification correct, and
2) what is the problem?
