If you can attract enough Norther Flickers they'll chase off all the
Starlings. Well not really, but it is fun to watch the Flickers shag the
Starlings out of the yard.

There are plans on the net for suet feeders which place the suet in the
bottom of a box. Apparently Starlings can't hang upside down very well. I
tried it and found that the only birds which used it were Yellow Rumps and
Bush Tits. I built a suet feeder with a long overhanging roof which
partially thwarts the Starlings; but unfortunately it also works well at
eliminating ground feeders and woodpeckers.

I've accepted the fact that I need to spend a few dollars a week to feed
suet. It's worth it see the variety of birds in my back yard. Especially
the daily visits from the huge flock of Bush Tits.
