My suet was being devoured by jays and crows so I purchased one of those
special suet feeders at one of the Wild Bird stores. It has a wooden top that
opens for easy filling. (also protects the suet from the rain and sun) It has
a cord hanger that allows you to adjust the angle you hang it at. I was
afraid I'd lose my woodpeckers, nuthatches, chickadees etc. so hung it as
quite an angle at first, then put it almost horizontal as the birds got used
to it. I still get flickers, hairies and an occasional downy plus the
nuthatches and chickadees and no jays or crows! I've seen yellow-rumps and
bushtits in the yard but never have seen them on the feeder.
