My friend, JR Fletcher, says ... "I just provided myself with hideously
expen$ive equipment for the purpose of dubbing/ editing/improving tape
cassettes of bird vocalizations and am thinking that, as a way to more
fully utilize the new gear I would custom-prepare calling tapes to birders
with a specific trip in mind. For example, someone going to W. Mexico could
order calling tapes of just the endemics or other specialities for, say,
the Hwy 40 portion and another companion tape with the lowland (San Blas,
e.g.) areas featured. Endless spooling through yards of useless tape on
comercially-available tapes is thereby eliminated, and the short cuts that
are usual on such tapes would be lengthened to more useable durations".

Though I've been providing JR cuts from my tropical recording for years, my
question to you is, what do you think? Is this something birders
need/want? Will this mean that other areas will eventually suffer the SE
Arizona 'taped' bird problems? I've used JR's recordings before, and I
will do so again, but I'm interested in the thoughts of others on this
subject?
