Re; weight of scope: don't forget there are scope carriers such as the
one I use for packing long distances: TRIPAK fits on your back like a
back pack but it helps to have a second person help with putting it on
and taking it off. For a light weight scope to supplement the big one
and use in a window mount, I am extremely pleased with the Celestron 12 -
36 x 50mm Maverick. The price is less than a pair of 10 power binocs:
