This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

Mike Denny called in all the reports this week -- so this is what Mike
saw:

On January 30th, the two BLUE JAYS were relocated at the end of Davis
Street in College Place.

On February 2, there were 310+ SNOW GEESE at McNary Dam -- including
one blue morph bird in the flock.

At the wildlife area below the Dam, was an adult SWAMP SPARROW and 2
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS.

Today, February 5 at the Rice Road Habitat Management Area Mike and
Marylynn found 12 VARIED THRUSHES, 4 BEWICK'S WRENS, 4 WHITE-THROATED
SPARROWS, 2 FOX SPARROWS, 11 SPOTTED TOWHEES, 6 LONG-EARED OWLS, 1
BARN OWL, 2 GREAT HORNED OWLS, 1 COOPER'S HAWK, 2 female CASSIN'S
FINCHES, and -- the bird of the day -- a female PURPLE FINCH.

To reach the Rice Road Management Area, turn north off Hwy 124 on C.M.
Rice Road. After 6.5 miles the road reaches the Snake River and turns
northeast. The Management Area is located where the road turns. WA
DeLorme p.40, B-3.

On the Walla Walla River delta, the Denny's found 2 GLAUCOUS GULLS --
1 first-year and 1 second-year bird -- and 2 adult WESTERN GULLS.
There was an additional GLAUCOUS GULL on the "poop piles" north of the
delta. This afternoon there were 32 DUNLIN and 2 GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE on the delta.

At milepost 300 on Hwy 12 north of Wallula Junction, there were 22
AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS and 10+ HOODED MERGANSERS.

At the Two Rivers Habitat Management Unit -- which is just opposite
the entrance to Dodd Road -- were 14 BALD EAGLES.

On Monday, February 1, I found 2 SWAMP SPARROWS at the Lewiston sewage
treatment plant. The plant is located on the north side of the Snake
River and can be reached by turning west on 3d Street and wondering
west and north.

Also on Monday, I found 1 LONG-EARED OWL, 1 BARN OWL, and 1 SAW-WHET
OWL in Hell's Gate Park. All of the birds were in the conifers near
the play equipment on Loop A.

Kas should be back next week.
