These are entertaining bird stories that have
appeared on various birding discussion lists and
other forums on the Internet.

REDTAIL RECOVERS?

A redtail hawk, used in public education
programs because if was thought to be too badly
injured to be released, escaped from a zoo in
Seattle in early September. Concern lessened
over time as the bird seemed to thrive and was
seen catching a pigeon. The bird disappeared for
a while, but showed up in the area in early
December and was trapped. Plans are to examine
the redtail again in light of its ability to fend for
itself and perhaps to release it, this time without
the jesses it was wearing when it got loose. The
story appeared on TWEETERS, the e-mail dis-
cussion group for Washington State and was
posted by Greg Toffic.
