I remember hearing that the Vaccinium sp.. (blueberry/huckleberry/whatever
you want to call them) crop was unusually sparse last year in the Rockies.
The bears were having trouble finding enough food before hibernation. Maybe
you saw the cubs of momma bears who didn't have enough fat it make it
through the winter?
