with all the discussion about what might have happened to
wandering bear cubs at this time of year, how about notifying the
Idaho Department of Fish & Game (208-769-1414, Couer d'Alene
office) in case this does involve a poaching? (others have already
correctly pointed out that the spring bear hunting season doesn't
start until april 15, and that typically bear families are sleeping in
dens at this time with those wintery conditions.) if in fact mama bear
is not alive, cubs of that age (probably no more than a month old)
would never survive on their own -- IDFG might be able to help, or
at least investigate a possible poaching.
