I saw what I believe to be a domestic Chinese goose grazing with several
Canada geese at the Atlantic City Marina on SW Lake Washington yesterday.
It closely resembled the picture of the Chinese goose in the NatGeo guide
and was slightly larger than the Canadas. The dark stripe along the back of
the head and neck was not so obvious as in the NatGeo illustration, but
could be seen when the bird was at the right angle. The bill had a
prominent knob, in contrast to the description of the wild Chinese goose,
and if I remember correctly the bill was orange. I am guessing that this
bill is one of the "many variations" the guide says are found in domestic
Chinese geese. Has anyone else seen this bird (or others like it)?
