A few minutes later a woman with a big bag of bread showed up, as did the
gulls from the golf course across the river. The wigeons again waddled up
the walkway with the mallards and partook in the bread fest.
Could this be the beginning of the urbanization of American Wigeons?
Just ducky!"

As they feed the ducks at that location, they have to trip over the sign that
says "Do Not Feed the Ducks" which is on a small post and sticking about a
foot out of the ground. Many people ignore it, but there is a lot less
feeding there than there was before the signs were put up a couple of years
ago. My guess is that the resident mallard population has been cut in half
since that regulation/sign went in, and that was the intent of the sign. That
particular pond has loads of algae and 'grass' in it which is fertilized by
the birds. One of the local service clubs tries to maintain the pond as a
fishing spot for kids.
