YELLOW-BILLED LOON
GLAUCOUS GULL

p.m. at Begbie Building Room 159 at University of Victoria. Bruce
Whittington and Bob Chapple of Victoria will show slides and videos of
nesting Barn Owls here on the Saanich Peninsula. Everyone is welcome.
Bring your coffee mug, your binoculars and a friend.

Monday, February 22

A YELLOW-BILLED LOON was reported off Transfer Beach Park in Ladysmith
Harbour. This may be an adult in near-breeding plumage. To find the
bird take the Oyster Cove Road which is the first turn to the right
after you pass through the construction zone as you are entering
Ladysmith from the south. Updates on this bird would be appreciated.

A first winter GLAUCOUS GULL was about half way out on the Cowichan Bay
Industrial Dock Road, generally in the area where the vehicles can park
safely.

A single SNOWGOOSE was with CANADA GEESE and 16 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE
on the Dinsdale Farm near the large maple trees at the head of Cowichan Bay.


Sunday, February 21

A GYRFALCON was again at the golf driving range on Beverly Street north
of the MacDonald's restaurant in Duncan.

Watch for an AMERICAN BITTERN that was in that same area on February 18.

An as yet unidentified dark gull, possibly a dark HERRING GULL from Asia
or HERRING GULL hybrid, was on Phipps Road south of Duncan.


Saturday, February 20

A SAY'S PHOEBE was still at the Goodyear Tire store about 4 km north of
Duncan.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was on the northeast side of Mt. Tolmie in
Saanich near the pink house that borders the park.

A SPOTTED SANDPIPER and 10 BARROW'S GOLDENEYES were at Moses Point in North
Saanich.

2 WESTERN GULLS and 6 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were at Esquimalt Lagoon
in Colwood.


Friday, February 19
------------------------------
A BARRED OWL was at Neil and Haultain Roads in Oak Bay.

2 GREAT HORNED OWLS were in the firs south of Jennings Lane near Elk
Lake in Saanich.
