I
should be looking for to purchase the shade grown type, and do you know of
which stores carry it. I am on the Kitsap Penninsular."

Wes Jansen asks, "Being an espresso/latte drinker, I was wondering how that
blend does in that department?"

I do not claim to know everything there is to know about shade grown coffee,
but it is my second favorite subject of conversation(next to birds).

My favorite web site on shade grown coffee is the Smithsonian Institute's
"Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center". I double checked all of my web site
listings this time(sorry about that u.w. thing) and i will be x-tra careful
with the spelling. http://www.si.edu/natzoo/zooview/smbc
They have a great article entitled "Why Migaratory Birds are Crazy for Coffee"

The Seattle Audubon's Migratory Bird Committee has the best source for where
to buy shade-grown coffee in Seattle and other parts of the state as well.
They have a great flyer, entitled "Coffee and Birds, Making the Connection".
Please visit their shade grown coffee site at
http://www.seattleaudubon.org/coffee/home.html

My own personal favorite shade grown coffee is Kalani, and Wes, they make an
espresso blend. You can find Kalani coffee (An all organic company) at many
Qfc stores, and most co-ops, including Pcc. Their web site is at
http://www.speakeasy.org/kalani/index.html

The millstone coffee that is endorsed by the Nature Conservancy is called
Organic Mexican Altura French Roast, and they also have Organic Sierra Madre
blend, which I haven't tried. If you can't find Kalani, this french roast
makes pretty good espresso. The website for Millstone doesn't really have any
info on these blends or the Nature Conservancy, so I didn't include it here.

According to Kalani's eco-facts, Coffee is the second largest crop in the
world, after cotton, and the third most heavily sprayed, after cotton and
tobacco, so think before you drink.

Hope I didn't overload you with info. Please feel free to ask Your Barista
why their coffee shop doesn't use shade grown!

Wishing everyone a tasty cup! (Although some of you may need to switch to
decaf (~:~)
