I attempted to see the White-tailed Kites in Tenino twice yesterday. With no
luck, the weather was nasty with lots of wind and a constant downpour. So
when I woke up this morning and saw that the sun was out, I decided to skip my
morning class and take the half-hour drive to Tenino to try again. I went to
the Dan Darr Farm entrance and pulled off the main highway. I spent about 15
minutes looking directly in the farm fields thinking that maybe this is where
the others had seen the bird. Well I wasn't having any luck and the weather
was starting to turn bad again. So as I was heading back to the car, what do
ya know, a raptor comes into view across the street over some of the mima
mounds in Rock Prairie. It was a Kite, a Juvie. I was very happy, then to my
astonishment another Kite came into view, chasing the one before it. It was
another Juvenile White-tailed Kite. They flew with the wind currents for a
while before disapearing southeast towards Mima Acres Drive.
There were many Meadowlarks around aswell and I also had 1 Scrub Jay in
Tenino.
Thats it.
