I also smile when I see that expression. It reminds me of when I was a
Radio Officer on the Queen Mary, back in the sixties.
One of our English passengers incorporated that expression in a
telegram he tried to send to a friend in New York. It was returned to
us aboard as undeliverable due to the obscene nature of the text.
Such is the gulf between American & Brit humour!
