Pat Moore,

Yes, the walk at Green Lake is appropriate for birders of any level. I
regularly get people without binoculars or anything else but an interest in
birds. And that is the only requirement. You don't even have to stay the
full 2+ hours, you can leave when you want/need.

Seattle Audubon Society is well worth joining, they offer trips, some
especially geared towards beginning birders. However, you will find that the
trips with "more experienced" birders are not at all intimidating. I have
found that most birders in this area (especially SAS members) are very
helpful and mindful of their own beginning days. I have never seen anyone
treated in a disrespectful or condescending way. Just don't be afraid to let
people know you are a beginner and would like some help.

So do come out to Green Lake, first or third Saturdays, 8 AM, east beach
life guard chair and by all means, introduce yourself. Always nice to put a
face with a name.

Sincerely,
Martin Muller, Seattle
