Subject: Columbia Estuary Report - 2/28/99

Efforts to locate early migrants this morning were unsuccessful.

Many resident species are setting up territories however. KILLDEER are
pairing up at the mill site in Seaside and at Hammond. MARSH WRENS,
RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS and HUTTON'S VIREO are all beginning their spring
vocalizations.

About 1000 SANDERLING and 100 DUNLIN were on what there was of Clatsop
Beach.
