Hello, and a happy new year to all birders. Heehee, my first bird of the day was a starling. I couldn't work my husband into a road trip, but I did get him to take me around the local area. For such a decent day, there were few raptors out. We saw flocks of Canadas, widgeons, a few ring necks, scarps, one female Hooded Merganser, lots of buffleheads. I got fooled by a bunch of duck decoys. We watched several duck hunters and their dogs retrieving birds in the Lincoln Creek area. Then off to the Centralia steam plant. There was absolutely nothing on my favorite ponds. But on the way back, I spotted 5 swans on sediment pond 36, two adult trumpter swans with two immatures and one tundra swan. The young ones were such a beautiful shade of gray. Keep your fingers crossed for me that the shots hubby took come out. He used the spotting scope with his camera for the first time.
