This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for December

On December 16, Nancy LaFramboise received a message that Leon Maxwell had
seen 6 CATTLE EGRET in the Burbank area. These may be the same birds
reported at Iowa Beef by Mike Denny on December 12.

Laurie Ness observed a MERLIN near the base of Badger Mt on its north side
on December 17.

On December 18, a flock of about 20 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS appeared briefly in
my (Bob Woodley's) Mountain Ash tree and Dennis Johnson found a GREAT
HORNED OWL in WE Johnson Park in Richland.

Also in WE Johnson Park on December 20, Craig Corder and Judy Stevens
relocated the lone BOHEMIAN WAXWING. Craig and Judy also saw 2 LONG-EARED
OWLS and 5 BROWN CREEPERS along the canal along Owens Road south of
Kennewick and 3 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS at the junction of Game Farm Road and
Oak (Finley) and 14 RED CROSSBILLS near 2543 Harris Street in Richland.

Also on December 20, Ruth Fischer reported a HARRIS' SPARROW at her feeder
and several birders saw a flock of 30 RED CROSSBILLS at the cemetery at
10th and Union in Kennewick.

On December 21, Laurie Ness saw a lone SNOW GOOSE flying below Ice Harbor Dam.

Carol Louderback noted 2 SPOTTED TOWHEES remained in her Kennewick yard on
December 24, while on December 25, Dennis Rockwell observed a PINE SISKIN
and "SLATE-COLORED" DARK-EYES JUNCO at his feeder in Two Rivers Park.

On December 26, Craig Corder and Judy Stevens reported a BROWN-HEADED
COWBIRD at a feeder on Clover Street in the Rancho Reata area (Richland).

Lastly, Laurie Ness found the first GLAUCOUS GULL for the winter, a first
year bird, below Ice Harbor Dam on December 26.
