For all of you that spend time east of the Cascades in Oregon or
Washington, all Trumpeter Swan sightings should be reported to the
committee that manages the Rocky Mountain population. I'm forwarding
Steve Bouffard's request for such information. I've noticed a few
Trumpeter Swan sightings posted to Tweeters and forwarded those on to
Steve already. Specific information is requested, and Steve doesn't
want to be inundated with questionable sightings, so be cautious in
your ID before sending on your sightings. The attached files include
the report form and an excellent ID guide which will be helpful even
to those of you that are on the west side of the Cascades where
Trumpeters are most likely to be part of the Pacific population.

Trumpeter Swans are starting to show up in good numbers. We are
soliciting reports again this year. I've attached two WordPerfect
versions of the report form, one in version 5.1 and the other in version
6. You will probably need to look at these in WordPerfect, rather than
your e-mail software. There are two images on each of the forms. These
images are the stylized numbers and the collars. You may have to move
them around a little if they cover any of the text on the form. I tried
to convert it to Microsoft Word with absolutely no success. I will try
to make a Microsoft Word version of the report form next week for those
of you who want it. Let me know if you'd like the Word version and I'll
send it when it is done.

Also attached in WordPerfect 5.1 and 6 and Microsoft Word is a
checklist of differences between Trumpeter and Tundra Swans. If you
have trouble reading any of the files let me know and I will mail you
a hardcopy.


Most of you have seen an earlier message that Milton Haderlie will
retire soon, and I will assume swan coordinator duties. I will get
out a report of the project activities sometime around Thanksgiving.

We will be doing another west wide search for trumpeters next January.
It will be the week after the Midwinter Waterfowl Survey. I will
provide more information later; this is just a preliminary notice to
let you know that it is coming.
