Things have been very quiet for weeks and today was no exception. But there
is always something of interest.

For the last couple of weeks, there has been a flock of over 100 Red-winged
Blackbirds hanging out on the west side of the slough, at least in the early
morning. Do blackbirds have communal night roosts like crows? With the
very late sunrises, we may simply be overlapping their roosting time.

We had over 10 Common Goldeneye, most flying downstream in the early
morning. Also a couple of male Common Merganser on the lake.

There have been fairly high hawk numbers; this week we had at least 4, and
probably 5 Red-tailed Hawks, one or two Cooper's Hawks, and a Sharpie.

There was also an adult Northern Shrike in the field east of the east end of
the nature trail. It allowed us some wonderful views.

Finally, Fox Sparrows are still numerous.

Despite being pretty quiet, we still managed 35 species in about 2 hours.
