Fort Simcoe does seem to attract an amazing concentration of Lewis'
Woodpeckers. On one visit there six or seven years ago, I not only found
the trees "saturated" with them in the way Russell Rogers describes, but
even four or five hanging out in the surrounding sage-brush --- a bizarre
sight. On that occasion I also watched for several minutes an American
Kestrel and a Lewis' Woodpecker perched on the same branch of a large oak,
about four feet apart, apparently doing their best to ignore each other.

I have been to Fort Simcoe when it was covered in Lewis Woodpeckers. Each
tree had 4-5 of them in it minimum. It was quite a spectacle to see. Well
worth the visit.
