Had a nice walk thru Shoreview Park today, and saw a bird
that looked (to me) very much like a GOLDEN-CROWNED
KINGLET, probably female since there was no orange in
that bright yellow. Saw several times, on the hill
up behind the tennis courts. Very beautiful bird, and
dang, is it fast! Also saw several VIREOS, likely
SOLITARY: pale eye ring, greenish/yellowish body, very fast.
And a hummingbird, pale green, one brief look; I'm not
sure I'll ever lose the magic I feel when I see one.

At Edmonds I saw 16 GREAT BLUE HERONS at the Union Oil
Marsh, and am pretty sure the big flock begween the pier
and the ferry were WESTERN GREBES. Also saw other grebes,
probably HORNED and RED-NECKED, but after a while my eyes
crossed. If any grebe-hounds are visiting Edmonds or
Golden Gardens on Fri-Sun and would like to show a newbie
some distinguishing marks, please email me; thanks! Also
saw some kind of MURRELET but it was very brownish, like
the summer coloring; probably a female that I don't have
a picture of.
