Got so excited about seeing my first ever yellow shafted flicker that I had
to jump online about it!

Last spring I had a pair of RSFL bring their three offspring to the suet
block. Of the three, one was a "normal" RS; the other two had the red
shafts on their feathers but one had a red chevron on the back of his head
and the other had black moustaches.

Today is one of my FeederWatch days. I checked the front window a few
minutes ago and saw a flicker with red on the back of his head and assumed
is was the cross from last spring but as I looked more closely I saw the
black moustaches and YELLOW SHAFTS!! I know they're probably not all THAT
uncommon in eastern WA but when it's your first sighting of something you
just can't help jumping up and down (well, maybe not literally)!

Just had to dial up!

Joanne
