This is the Vancouver Rare Bird Alert 9:00pm update for Sunday January 17.
Featured birds for this evenings report are:

GYRFALCON;
PRAIRIE FALCON;
AMERICAN KESTREL;
MERLIN;
HARRIS' SPARROW;
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW;
RUSTY BLACKBIRD; and an out of town;
SAY'S PHOEBE.

This was falcon day, a GYR FALCON was seen twice on Westham Island, once at
Kenneth Pass and once at the entrance to Reifel Refuge. The PRAIRIE FALCON
was seen at the Rough Wood point area and an AMERICAN KESTREL was at 41B at
Deltaport Way, Ladner A MERLIN was at the end of 41B.

The HARRIS' SPARROW was at a feeder behind 2545 west 13th in Vancouver.
This is two houses east of where it was discovered several weeks ago at 2564
west 12th. Both feeders can be seen from the back lane between 12th and
13th Avenue.

A tan morph WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was with GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS in
Portage Park, Langely. Portage Park is at the foot of 204th Street where it
meets the north side of the Nickomekl River floodplain.

The RUSTY BLACKBIRD was again at Bryden Park Nature Lagoon, Langley in the
late afternoon.

Out of town near Duncan on Vancouver Island, a SAY'S PHOEBE was seen again
at the "Trans Isl." truck repair building about 4 km north of Duncan. For

Back in the Lower Mainland eight SNOWBUNTINGS were along the Tsawwassen
Ferry Jetty and a BLACK DUCK was at the reclamation area.

One EARED GREBE was off the White Rock Pier.

The MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE was at the front yard feeders of 269 west 63rd st
Vancouver.

Two MARBLED GODWITS were at the end of 12th Avenue Tsawwassen.

The AMERICAN DIPPER was still at the Beaver Lake outfall in Stanley Park.

A WESTERN SCREECH OWL was at Minicota Park in Port Coquitlum

Saturday January 16th

The adult male BRAMBLING in basic plumage was again at Blacky Spit in the
afternoon. It associates with sparrows and shoreline trees and shrubs on
the north side at the low pilings that span the mouth of Farm Slough. The
LONG-BILLED CURLEW and MARBLED GODWIT were also in the area.

Two CRESTED MYNAHS were on 22nd between Oak and Osler in Vancouver.

Seven BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were at Ferguson Point in Stanley Park.

One ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was at the woodlot at the Sea Island end of the
Sea Island Iona causeway.
