Sun. was another full day field trip to Shark Valley and Corkscrew Swamp
Sanctuary. We left at 0630 and got to Shark Valley about 0830. Randy Harrison
and Larry Manfredi, he leads trips to Dry Tortugas Is., were our leaders. We
rode the tram to the tower at the end and back on a loop drive. I had 52
species for the day and the new birds for the trip are listed below:
Green Heron
SNAIL KITE (3) - a lifer for me and many others
SHORT-TAILED KITE - rare and a lifer for most of the group
Purple Gallinule
LIMPKIN (3) - a lifer for me
NORTHERN PARULA - a life bird for me in the USA.
We ate boxed lunches as we headed for Corkscrew Swamp. Use of "pishing" and
tape calls are prohibited there due to large numbers of people that visit. I
will list the new trip birds that I saw. A number of other people saw other
birds that not everyone saw as there were 30 people strung out along the
boardwalk.
YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER - a life bird for me
Barred Owls (2)
Black-and-White Warbler
Tufted Titmouse

A Painted Bunting had been reported as coming to the feeder at the entrance. A
few people did spend a lot of time there instead of walking the over 2 mile
trail. They were rewarded by getting a quick look a female PABU which isn't
nearly as pretty as the mail.

One more report comng for Mon. morning at Ding Darling
