There's still a few spots available on this Saturday's pelagic trip (1/23)
out of
Westport, WA. Contact Terry Wahl at 360-733-8255 or trwahl at aol.com for
details or to sign up. Cost is $70. January trips are always an
adventure and if trip is
weathered out and rescheduled, the cost is refunded if you can't make the
rescheduled date.

Probable/possible birds this time of year include Black-footed Albatross,
Laysan Albatross, Northern Fulmar, Black-legged Kittiwake, Sooty and
Short-tailed Shearwater, Cassin's Auklet, and Pomarine Jaeger. Nearshore
species, such as Common Murre and Rhinoceros Auklet are also observed, and
Rock Sandpiper are usually found on the Westport Jetty. This is the
also time of year for the unexpected. In January 1994, a Short-tailed
Albatross was well-seen by all on-board. In 1997, this trip had both
Mottled Petrel and Parakeet Auklets, and in 1998 a Red-legged Kittiwake was
seen.

Finally, this trip usually has lots of experienced birders on-board (in
addition to 3 official spotters), so for folks new to pelagic birding,
there
should be plenty of identification help.
