This is definately not bird related, so erase now if you are not
interested.

Almost all of the USDA maps I have seen show that we are in zone 8.
However, I know for a fact that we are zone 7 (I work at Sky Nursery in
case you were wondering). I think it is one of those micro-climate
things. In any event, I believe that the USDA hardiness zones are
actually determined by the average (over several years) of the lowest
temperature of the year, not the first and last frost dates, which vary a
great deal from year to year.
