Katie and I drove to the Columbia Basin friday 1/22 for a target bird:
snowy owl.
It rained all day w/o stopping but we still saw many kestrels, Northern
Harriers, horned larks, a few redtail hawks, a couple of Northern
shrikes, one osprey sitting on ice on the body of water between Wilson
Creek and Marlin (Stratford lake?), A Great Blue Heron in Crab Creek at
Hwy 28, and MANY species of ducks and geese also in the flooded Crab
Creek bottom between Wilson Creek and Marlin (are they migratory birds
heading back north or winter residents?) including common and barrows
goldeneye, pintails, scaups, of course mallards, and greater and lesser
Canada geese. Oh, by the way, we did see our target snowy! Hans
