Saturday, Jan. 23, 2:59 p.m. Hi, Scott Downes, 361-7073. This
afternoon over at Magnuson Park had one SHORT-EARED
OWL and one WHITE-THROATED SPARROW. And on the
NOAA property was able to relocate the ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWK, which had been found earlier. That's it. Good luck and
good birding.

Saturday, Jan. 23, 1:33 p.m. Hello, this is Kraig Kemper,
206-789-9255, reporting for Saturday, January 23rd. Birding the
Samish Flats, Kathy Kemper and I had a five-falcon day,
including the PRAIRIE FALCON at the West 90, one
PEREGRINE over a tree along Farm-to-Market Road near
Sunset, the GYRFALCON at the Field Road 90, two
AMERICAN KESTREL along Chuckanut, north of Bow Road
where it intersects Chuckanut at the Rhododendron Cafe, and
then a total of three MERLINS, one at the foot of the Bayview
landfill off of Avon Allenwest Road, one in the town of Edison
near the white church north of town, and one in front of our
place off Bayview-Edison Road just north along the road in Bay
north of Bayview Cemetery Road. We also saw one
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW at the foot of the Bayview
landfill. Thank you.

Saturday, Jan. 23, 7:45 a.m. Hello, this is Alan Grenon at
206-329-6005, with the phone number to call to visit to try to
see the RUSTIC BUNTING. The house's name is Connie
McCauley and her phone number is 509-548-5582. Apparently,
that's been lost to easy access in the system. Good luck. Bye
bye.

Thursday, Jan. 21, 8:13 p.m. Hi, this is Greg Toffic. This
afternoon, following up on reports of Kraig Kemper and Dave
Beaudette and Marv Breece about sparrows at Skagit Wildlife
Refuge, I went up in the late afternoon and was unable to find
the HARRIS SPARROW or SWAMP SPARROW. However, I
found eight AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS in the hedgerow,
the central hedgerow described by Kraig Kemper. Good luck.
Hope you find them.

Thursday, Jan. 21, 3:58 p.m. Hello, this is Dave Beaudette,
206-365-2083. On Jan. 19th at the headquarters unit of the
Skagit Wildlife Area in Skagit County in the brambles on the
south side of the road that goes to the boat launch parking lot
was a HYBRID GOLDEN-CROWNED/WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROW. And in the field to the south were four large
sparrow flocks. I located five TREE SPARROWS in those
flocks. And today, Jan. 21st, along the main dike trail, about 1/4
mile south of the main parking lot is the first main trail that goes
to the right. There is a footbridge there. A COMMON YELLOW
THROAT was seen there. That's all for now. Good luck and
good birding.

Wednesday, Jan. 20, 5:47 p.m. Hello, this is Kraig Kemper,
206-789-9255, reporting for Wednesday Jan. 20. Birding the
Skagit Wildlife Management Area this afternoon from 3 o'clock
to 4:30 p.m., I located three TREE SPARROWS, one SWAMP
SPARROW, one HARRIS SPARROW, two LINCOLN
SPARROW along with FOX, SONG, GOLDEN-CROWNED,
WHITE-CROWNED, SONG SPARROW, DARK-EYED
JUNCO AND TOWHEE in the central hedgerow that separates
the two cornfields in the two parking lots at the game range.
Thanks.

Tuesday, Jan. 19, 8:05 p.m. This is Marv Breece,
206-634-1725. Today, Tuesday, January 19th, at the Skagit
Wildlfife Area off Mann Road, I saw two WHITE-THROATED
SPARROWS, three TREE SPARROWS and one HARRIS'
SPARROW, the Harris' sparrow seen about 4 p.m. from the
road between the two parking lots. Good.

Tuesday, Jan. 19, 3:23 p.m. This is Hal Opperman,
425-635-0503, reporting on a trip to north central Washington
over the weekend with Tom Schooley, Sheila McCarten and
Jolynn Edwards. Some of the highlights: a single
SHARP-TAILED GROUSE on the 17th along Peterdam Creek in
extreme southeastern Okanogan County, feeding in branches
just east of Moses Ranch. This is on the north side of the road
where it crosses the creek. This road leaves State Route 155 a
mile or so north of of Elmer City. The grouse spot is about half
a mile east of the Buffalo Lake Road turnoff. We saw an adult
GLAUCOUS GULL on the 16th right at the river's edge in Grant
County directly across from the Ginko State Park overlook at
Vantage. And there were about 40 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS
on the 18th in poplar trees in orchard country just west of the
lower end of Central Ferry Canyon Road in Douglas County. A
HARRIS' SPARROW also on the 18th was along Monse River
Road about 100 yards north of the community of Monse in
Okanogan County. This is across the river from Highway 97
about 3 miles north of the State Route 17 intersection. Finally,
there were a few SNOW BUNTINGS. Some were on the
plateau right at the head of the top of the Central Ferry Canyon
Road where it reaches the plateau at about 26 Northeast. And
others were along Highway 2 at Atkins Lake, which is about 7
miles west of Dry Falls Dam. Thank you.

Tuesday, Jan. 19, 9:21 a.m. Hello, this is Dave Beaudette,
206-365-2083. On January 17th in the monthly census of the
Kent Ponds with Matt Knox and Roger Orness, of the 44
species seen, the most numerous was the NORTHERN
PINTAIL with about 1200 birds. Other notables was a ROSS'
GOOSE flying with CANADAS from the southwest part of the
ponds headed north. Later in the day, the bird was seen grazing
with CANADAS in the field, northwest of South 212th Street
and 68 Avenue South, which is just northeast of the Kent
Ponds. Also, a BARN OWL was found roosting in the Austrian
black pines at Anderson Park along the northwest part of the
Kend Ponds property along the Russell Road there. Good luck
and good birding. Bye. Anderson Park along the northwest part
of the Kend Ponds property along the Russell Road there. Good
luck and good birding. Bye.
