The robin numbers are high but blackbirds can number 50,000+ in open
winters. And yellow-heads typically occur in flocks with red-wings.

One reason for lots of robins this year might be the unharvested
apples on the Royal Slope, a result of very poor prices offered for
juice apples (less than a penny a pound). Somewhere along the way the
apples will no longer be available, and the shift to Russian olives is
a normal occurrence.

Read your posting with amazement. Have seen "tons" of robin and blackbird
flocks on last few field trips west of us toward the coast but nothing like
these numbers. Is this usual/unusual for the Columbia Basin for this time of
year?
