While conducting a BBS route, nighthawk, in the Palmer Lake area I came
across atleast one pine grosbeak. I say one because of the survey time
requirment I did not look for more. The bird called , that is how I found
it, and then seen . The location found was along Palmer Lake, eastside, 1.5
miles north of "Losvar's" mailbox and on the lake side of the road. I also
had mountain chickadee in the same location?. I found both of these birds
very unusual concidering the elevation is below 1,000 ft. I asked Randy
Hill about it and he said the pine grosbeak is a good bird, even for
Washington. There was snow,on the higher elevations immediate to my route
so that may have something to do with the birds being where they were. I
pass this along in case any one living near by may want to look for them.
Keep the binos steady.
