NESTBOX REPORT: Hunt Creek 7/04/1999

I checked the nestboxes placed at the at Hunt Creek a selective cut
on State forestry lands by Astoria High School Students today.
The boxes are standard 6x6x8 bluebird-type boxes and were intended
to provide cavity nests for species impacted by logging.

The Hunt Creek site is located about 5km s of hwy 30 near Clifton,
Clatsop Co. (GPS 46? 08.23'N 123? 27.20'W)

The results follow:

1 empty
2 BCCH start only (incomplete nest)
3 empty
4 not checked
5 BCCH completed nest, no eggs, no sign of hatching
6 empty
7 not checked
8 not checked
9 not checked
10 not checked
11 destroyed by vandals
12 BCCH start only
13 empty
14 vespid wasp nest
15 empty
16 BCCH start only
17 BCCH start only
18 BCCH start only
19 empty
20 BCCH complete nest, no eggs, no sign of hatching, calling
adults nearby
21 BCCH complete nest, no eggs, no sign of hatching

Notes: All evidence of use was for BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEE. Most
had partially completed nest cups of moss. Other potential cavity
nesters seen in the area included VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS, BEWICK'S
WREN and WESTERN BLUEBIRD.
