Subject: Birding at track speed - Great Horned Owl ??

Hi all

We were sitting in a siding at the very eastern end of the Fraser
Valley, yesterday evening, when a rather large owl flew about 300' in
front of us. It flew from thick mixed deciduous forest across the tracks
and the highway back into the same.

The bird was at least the size of a Great Gray or Great Horned Owl.
Where the problem lies is with the general over-all color. It was too
light....more like a Short-eared Owl.

This happened about 8:00 PM with overcast sky so the available light
wasn't great.

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.
