update.

The Rare Bird Alert continues for the LITTLE GULL and AMERICAN WHITE
PELICAN.

Sightings for July 4
The LITTLE GULL was again observed near the dirt mound on Iona Bay. Also
of note at the Iona ponds were 3 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, 40 LESSER YELLOWLEGS
and overhead 5 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS.

Another COMMON NIGHTHAWK was reported from Burnaby Lake along with a
juvenile male YELLOWHEADED BLACKBIRD.

The AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN was seen off the Robert's Bank Jetty.

Blackie Spitt was the location for 5 WHIMBREL and an OLDSQUAW.

An on territory singing CHIPPING SPARROW was along Pitt Meadows Rennie Rd..
in the large group of trees north of the power lines.

A LAZULI BUNTING was again seen on the Port Coquitlam side of Colony Farm..
The bird was in the 2nd field north of the woods.

Noteworthy birds observed on the monthly Squamish bird census were 4
PEREGRINE FALCON, a TURKEY VULTURE, COMMON NIGHTHAWK and a WESTERN
KINGBIRD.

Saturday, July 3
The AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN was again present off the Robert's Bank Jetty.
Also seen was a total of 380 GREAT BLUE HERON.

A SHORT-EARED OWL was observed hunting near the foot of 72nd Ave.

An ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD is frequenting a feeder in the 1600 block of
Scarborough Cres. in Port Coquitlam.

On the VNHS outing to Colony Farm 3 GREEN HERONS, a BARN OWL and a singing
LAZULI BUNTING were observed.

Another LAZULI BUNTING was reported in the 3700 block of Pine Cres. in
Vancouver. The bird was coming to a feeder and was also observed perched
on power lines in the area.

Friday, July 2
The LITTLE GULL was again present on Iona Bay near the dirt mound.

The AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN was again reported from the Robert's Bank Jetty
on a concrete pillar close to a cormorant colony.

Large numbers of shorebirds were reported from Iona. 3,000 WESTERN, 250
SEMIPALMATED, 150 LEAST, and a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER. Also reported were a
SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 22 LESSER and 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS. Over head were
500+ BLACK SWIFTS and 300 VAUX'S SWIFTS.

Thursday, July 1
The LITTLE GULL was reported from Iona Bay.

Two AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS were observed in Moody Arm. They were seen
near Reed Point Marina then later off the pier at Rocky Point Park in Port
Moody.
