Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday July 8. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

On July 7 a subadult LITTLE GULL in heavy molt was at a lake south of the
effluent ponds on the North Spit of Coos Bay.

A territorial VIRGINIA'S WARBLER was loudly singing July 5 at a thick
Mountain Mahogany grove along Rose Creek Road south of Ironside in
northern Malheur County. A PLUMBEOUS VIREO was also seen. To reach the
area turn off Highway 26 near Ironside onto Rose Creek Road and drive
about ten miles to a small rock cairn beside the road. This is where the
PLUMBEOUS VIREO was seen. Continue on Rose Creek Road to the junction of
the marked road to Juntura. Turn toward Juntura and drive 1.1 miles. The
VIRGINIA'S WARBLER was at the rim above the road. The roads in this area
are good.

A CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was along Indian Ford Creek north of Sisters
July 4. The AMERICAN REDSTART continues to be seen there, and a nesting
WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKER is nearby.

A RED PHALAROPE with five RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were at Boiler Bay and an
adult SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was at yaquina Bay July 7. A SEMIPAMATED
SANDPIPER was seen July 6 at Ona Beach State Park, and two were on the
Bayocean Shorebird Flats at Tillamook Bay July 3. A POMARINE JAEGER was
near the South Jetty of the Columbia River July 2.

A BLACK SWIFT was reported over Progress SW of Portland July 4. A LEWIS'S
WOODPECKER was along the Springwater Corridor in Gresham July 6. Two
BLACK TERNS were at Baskett Slough NWR July 4. A pair of WESTERN
KINGBIRDS are nesting at Royal Avenue on the east side of Fern Ridge
Reservoir.

A LEAST FLYCATCHER was found July 3 along Little Butter Creek, southwest
of Boardman. Three-toed Woodpeckers are nesting again this year at Hosmer
Lake south of Bend. They are found between campsites 1 and 8.

Over 10,000 phalaropes are now gathered at Lake Abert. Both WILSON'S and
RED-NECKED are being seen.

On July 1 two BROAD-TAILED HUMMINGBIRD, apparently collecting nesting
material, were seen in the Oregon Canyon Mountains NW of McDermitt,
Nevada. VIRGINIA'S WARBLERS were not found in the areas where they were
seen last summer.

Thats it for this week.
