update.

The Rare Bird Alert continues for the LITTLE GULL.

Sightings for July 8th
The LITTLE GULL was again reported from Iona. The bird is best seen on the
rising or falling tide. It has been found routinely with a flock of
Bonaparte's Gulls on the foreshore of the North Arm Jetty close to a dirt
mound. Also on the Iona ponds were large numbers of returning shorebirds..
Species of note were 200 SEMIPALMATED, and 2 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS along with
2 LESSER YELLOWLEGS.

Two TURKEY VULTURES were reported near 108th & 50th St. in Surrey.

July 7
A LINCOLN'S SPARROW was observed at Iona.

July 6
Observed from the Farm Slough area of Blackie Spit were a MARBLED GODWIT, 4
WHIMBREL and 12 LESSER YELLOWLEGS.

July 5
The AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN was seen at its now usual location off the
Robert's Bank Jetty.

Reported from the Reifel Refuge were a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON, a
TRUMPETER SWAN and 4 GREAT HORNED OWLS.

July 4
The LITTLE GULL was at Iona. Also at the Iona ponds were 3 BAIRD'S
SANDPIPERS, 40 LESSER YELLOWLEGS and 5 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS.

COMMON NIGHTHAWK's were also reported from the 15300 Ave. block of south
Surrey and Burnaby Lake. Also at Burnaby Lake was a juvenile male
YELLOWHEADED BLACKBIRD.

The AMIERICAN WHITE PELICAN was off the Robert's Bank Jetty.

Blackie Spit was the location for 5 WHIMBREL and an OLDSQUAW.

Four GREEN HERONS were observed near 204th & 94 in Surrey.

An on territory singing CHIPPING SPARROW was along Pitt Meadows Rennie Rd..
in the large group of trees north of the power lines. Also in Pitt Meadows
near the Pitt River Bridge was a PEREGRINE FALCON.

A LAZULI BUNTING was seen on the Port Coquitlam side of Colony Farm. The
bird was in the 2nd field north of the woods.


Saturday, July 3
The AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN was present off the Robert's Bank Jetty. Also
seen was a total of 380 GREAT BLUE HERON.

A SHORT-EARED OWL was observed hunting near the foot of 72nd Ave.

An ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD was frequenting a feeder in the 1600 block of
Scarborough Cres. in Port Coquitlam.

Seen on the VNHS outing to Colony Farm 3 GREEN HERONS, a BARN OWL and a
singing LAZULI BUNTING.

Another LAZULI BUNTING was reported in the 3700 block of Pine Cres. in
Vancouver. The bird was coming to a feeder and was also observed perched
on power lines in the area.
